Description
The famous lagoon of Balos is located about 56 km northwest of Chania and 17 km northwest of Kissamos, between Cape Gramvousa and the small Cape Tigani and below the mountain range of Platiskinos. Balos is certainly the most photographed beach in Crete and a popular topic in all travel guides for Greece. It is no coincidence that Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited Balos many years ago with their private yacht.
Balos is famous for its turquoise waters, wild natural beauty and beautiful exotic scenery. In summer, the island is visited by thousands of people, most of whom arrive by ferries from the port of Kissamos. If you do not like crowds, it is better not to visit the beach in July and August. Also, it is a good idea to arrive in Balos in the morning before the boats from Kissamos arrive. These few hours of seclusion in such a paradisiacal place will remain in your memory forever.
